We get a lot of books at Computer Times to review but few earn our Editor's Choice award. After reading just a few pages of The Digital Photography Book, by Scott Kelby (ISBN: 032147404X), it became quickly apparent that this was not just another photography book. This is a very unique book packed with useful information for every level of photographer, from novice to professional, with just the right amount of humor to keep your interest. In its 220 pages, you will not find technical charts with confusing information that will put you to sleep. You will find a treasure trove of useful tips that will help you take professional-quality photos with whatever type of digital camera you use, at whatever level of expertise you happen to be, from beginner to old pro.

Prior to being editor of Computer Times, I spent many years as an avid photographer, professional photographer, and photography instructor. While it is rather easy to create interest and excitement in a photography classroom, it is much more difficult to do so in a photography book. Scott does just that by providing photo tips that are easy to apply for outstanding results. Even professionals will appreciate Scott's tips as he many times reminds us of tips and techniques we may have known in the film world but never quite seemed to master in the digital world of photography.

Scott begins his book by providing tips on using low-cost materials to get high-quality results; what to do (and not to do) if you want the sharpest, clearest photos; and which equipment you need to purchase if you want to be a serious photographer. He then provides invaluable tips on shooting flowers, weddings, landscapes, sports, people, and travel locations, and continues with how to avoid problems, make the most of your digital camera, and how to print like a pro. His final chapter is rather unique in that he shows a variety of excellent photos and then tells you how to take them. This chapter is a photography instructor's dream and a beginner's recipe book for success.

One of the nicest features of this book is the fact that it is designed to be consumed in small bites, as each page covers just one trick to make your photography better. Scott writes in such conversational English that you feel like he is sitting next to you, passing on over 100 of the most closely guarded "tricks of the trade" to get you shooting dramatically better looking, sharper, more colorful, professional looking photos with your digital camera every time you push the shutter.

We have many photography books in our collection that will now take a back seat to The Digital Photography Book, by Scott Kelby. This book belongs in the hands of everyone who owns a digital camera. For more information about this book, click on this hyperlink The Digital Photography Book
